Pro Team member Chris Allen showed just why he has that status this week winning a match using a tactic that no one else employed.Let me explain, the venue Chris fished has depths of up to 30 feet and most fish are caught in the upper third which is pretty much standard for waters of this depth but due to high winds this would prove very difficult if not impossible so this is how he set about it. Chris fished a method feeder at only 11metres out where he had a depth of 12 feet but also cupped in groundbait over the top on a regular basis to build the swim up - and he nearly doubled the second place weight. Time to reveal his groundbait mix as he obviously thought about this as well - it was 70 per cent EFG161 and 30 per cent EFG100 which made the mix sticky enough for the depth of water but still be able to break down correctly. Very well thought out indeed! Rich Morgan, another Pro Team member, is also doing the business - this time at Mallory Park’s ‘Big Lake’. Rich was using a groundbait combination that I’ve never heard of anyone else using but the cats out of the bag now. The mix is equal parts of EFG 150, EFG151 and EFG161. How he came up with this mix and the thinking behind it I don’t know but will certainly be trying it out. Rich's hook bait was JPz and he weighed in an outstanding weight of 151lb 8oz and in doing so also qualified for the Master of the Glebe final. Joe Carass won the British Kamasan Open this week using 2mm pellets dusted with Krill powder and held together with EFG100 on the feeder. I wish I could tell you a bit more but Joe's playing his cards a little close to his chest. Robbie Griffiths tried a new venue out this week - Weston Pools near Oswestry in Shropshire - and came away with a win. I bet he's popular with the venue locals. Here’s how he did it, alternating between shallow fished caster (targeting F1s) and Krilled maggots in conjunction with Marukyu EFG-151 down the edge (targeting carp and barbel). It turned out to be a superb days fishing, weighing 122-2-0, with plenty of F1s backed up by a number of barbel to 6lb caught on big bunches of krilled maggot over the EFG-151. Second place weighed in 96lb 11oz. Phil Allton has had back to back wins recently at Bannister farm using his favoured groundbait EFG131 and four pints of krilled white maggots, will he make it a hat trick of wins next week? I wouldn't bet against it. Read how Total Coarse Fishing magazine editor Kevin Wilmot got on this week using JPz here. New to the Pro Team is Pete Marlow who visited White Acres for the first time this week and found himself on Canal pool in the Gold residents match. He decided to target F1 carp by mixing a bag EFG 120 and a pint of SDP 1mm nori pellets, the EFG 120 will be an attractive cloud and pellet will give the f1's something to eat on the bottom, with also a pinch of krill maggots in the kinder pot. Pete finished up with 60lbs of small f1’s, which doubled the next weight on the lake, and finished fourth overall. The Tonman Gordon Parker lived up to his name again this week with another ton plus weight - this time it was 138lb from the Glebe. A special mention goes out this week to Wendy Perry who continues to spread the word about Marukyu baits and took time out to give a demo on JPz, paste and groundbait at Partridge lakes this week. Gavin Leversidge managed a lake win on his first ever trip to Moorlands using his favoured Sanagi flavoured expanders. Gavin has been using these for some while now but has kept it under his hat before letting the cat out of the bag just to make sure its been the bait doing the business and not just his usual run of good pegs (sorry mate – couldn’t resist that one!) Jamie Adcock has yet another lake win under his belt at the Glebe with an amazing weight of 175lb during the recent ACA event held there. He started off on the feeder with EFG131 and krilled maggot on which he caught really well for the first hour but also noticed there were fish cruising about so started to feed 6mm pellets at 16m were he had decided to fish shallow but here's what Jamie does that’s a bit different to the rest of us - by putting a glug onto/into his hard feed pellets (SFA 430) and sealing them in a bag overnight, they don’t go soft but absorb the liquid which makes them more attractive. Jamie caught well on his shallow line catching best at around 2ft deep either on a feed pellet or a hair rigged JPz. He also caught six fish down the edge all on krilled maggot over EFG151 just to round the day off. |
